A man believed to be a pastor and a married woman were publicly stripped and humiliated by a mob in Iguomon community near Benin City, Edo State, after being accused of having an extramarital affair.

The shocking incident, which was recorded on video and circulated widely on Monday, shows the man being dragged out of a house by angry youths, stripped naked, and forced to sit on the ground. The woman was also pulled out, mocked, and eventually stripped by a female member of the mob.

Eyewitnesses say the couple was caught in a compromising situation, sparking outrage among community members who took the law into their own hands.

The incident attracted many onlookers, some of whom recorded the ordeal on their phones.

Activist Kola Edokpayi of the Talakawa Parliament condemned the act of jungle justice, saying such punishments are dangerous and illegal. “The people should have reported the matter to the police, not take the law into their own hands,” he said.

The Edo State Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed that no formal report has been made about the incident. “We cannot act on a viral video alone. The case must be officially reported before we can investigate,” he added.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in parts of Nigeria where community members sometimes resort to mob justice, risking human rights violations and ignoring legal procedures.
