Four mobile police officers are feared killed after a suspected herdsmen attack in Udei community, Nyiev ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
The incident happened on Sunday evening in Udei, which is located off the Makurdi-Lafia Federal highway.
According to a local resident, the police stationed at Udei were alerted that herdsmen were moving towards the community. The security operatives quickly responded and moved to intercept the attackers.
While the police were able to stop the attack, they reportedly lost four officers during the clash. The rifles belonging to the slain officers were also taken by the herdsmen.
The Benue Police Command has yet to release official information on the attack as investigations continue.
This attack adds to the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Benue State, where clashes between herdsmen and locals have been frequent in recent years.
