Ganduje Resigned Due to Health Issues, Not Politics – Orji Kalu

    Share

The sudden resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sparked wide reactions across Nigeria. But Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC) and former Abia State Governor, has explained that health reasons motivated Ganduje’s decision.

Ganduje, a former two-term Kano State governor, stepped down last week, citing urgent personal matters. While some believe his resignation is linked to political moves ahead of the 2027 elections, Kalu has dismissed these claims.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Kalu said he met Ganduje two weeks ago and discussed many issues, including health. According to him, “Health issues are what you can never put your eyes or your ears or your mind to.”

Kalu stressed that Ganduje is a close friend of President Bola Tinubu and insisted that no political pressure forced the resignation. “If it’s not health issues, he cannot say it’s not health issues,” Kalu said.

He further dismissed suggestions linking Ganduje’s resignation to the possible joining of the National Leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to APC or other political intrigues.

Kalu said, “Ganduje was the first governor to openly support President Tinubu before anyone else. So Nigerians should trust their leaders.”

The APC has accepted Ganduje’s resignation and is already making plans to replace him as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
