At least 15 people have been killed in an attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Kwallajiya village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack reportedly happened on Wednesday afternoon when the armed men invaded the village and opened fire on residents. All 15 victims were buried the same day in line with Islamic burial rites.
A local source who spoke with journalists expressed deep concern over the increasing attacks in the area. He alleged that some of the attacks were made possible by informants within nearby communities.
“These criminals get information from some people in our villages,” the source said. “People must start working closely with security agents to help stop these killings.”
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, were unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
The Lakurawa gang is one of several violent groups terrorising parts of northern Nigeria, often involved in killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling. Sokoto, like many states in the northwest, continues to battle rising insecurity.
