A tragic accident along the busy Nyanya-Keffi-Abuja expressway has left several people dead and many others injured. The crash happened on Thursday evening near Kugbo Hill, close to Karu Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Eyewitnesses say a trailer lost its brakes and crashed into more than six vehicles. The impact was so severe that some of the vehicles were badly damaged, with passengers trapped inside.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to rescue victims and clear the wreckage. The exact number of those killed is yet to be confirmed, but many are feared dead.
The incident also caused heavy traffic on the Nyanya-Keffi road, which is a major route linking Abuja to Nasarawa State. Commuters were stranded for hours as vehicles lined up for several kilometers.
Accidents involving trailers are not uncommon on Nigerian highways, often due to poor vehicle maintenance and bad road conditions. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of this crash or the number of casualties.
Residents are calling for stricter safety checks on heavy-duty vehicles to prevent future tragedies.
