The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Anambra State is strictly for the November 8 governorship election and not for any Senate or House of Assembly bye-elections.
This clarification was made on Thursday by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mrs. Elizabeth Agwu, during a press conference in Awka.
She said the CVR exercise will run from July 8 to July 17, daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including Saturdays but excluding Mondays.
“Fresh registration must be done physically at designated INEC offices, while those who want to correct or update their information can do so online,” Agwu explained. “INEC will not register anyone in absentia, and the portal will close automatically by 3:00 p.m. each day.”
She warned that registration is free, and no one should pay for it. “It is illegal to pay or be asked to pay for voter registration,” she said.
The commissioner urged all eligible voters in the state to take the exercise seriously and ensure they are registered or that their information is updated ahead of the governorship election.
“This is your chance to help choose who governs Anambra State. Don’t waste it,” she added.
