Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has given a strong hint that he may run for president again in 2027. Speaking in Hausa in a video shared on social media platform X, Atiku warned that anyone found guilty of corruption under his leadership would face strict punishment.
“I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished,” Atiku said in the video.
Atiku contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost. Recently, he has been associated with a new political movement that formed a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Though he has not officially announced his defection from the PDP, Atiku has been active in the new opposition group.
The coalition recently named former Senate President David Mark as its Interim National Chairman, and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, as Interim National Secretary, among other key appointments.
Atiku’s latest comments are seen as part of his early campaign to return to power, with a strong focus on tackling corruption, a major issue in Nigerian politics.
