The Taraba State Government has dismissed claims that Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali Abubakar has been replaced, stating that the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Lawson Hassan is only a temporary measure while the Deputy Governor is on medical leave.
Speaking at a press conference in Jalingo, Professor Josiah Kente, Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Agbu Kefas, described the rumours as “misleading narratives.”
He clarified that Dr. Lawson’s appointment was made solely to ensure smooth governance during Abubakar’s absence.
“It is neither a replacement nor a usurpation of the Deputy Governor’s mandate,” Kente said. “It is simply a stop-gap arrangement to keep the office running efficiently.”
Some critics had raised concerns that political or religious motives were behind the move, but Kente strongly rejected such suggestions.
“Dr. Emmanuel Lawson’s appointment has nothing to do with religion or politics. It is temporary and purely administrative,” he emphasized.
Kente also assured the public that Deputy Governor Abubakar is recovering well and remains in regular contact with Governor Kefas, who has offered continued support and well wishes to him and his family.
He called on the public, especially political actors, to avoid divisive comments that could create unnecessary tension in the state.
