Tinubu Arrives Brazil for BRICS Summit

    Share

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit, marking Nigeria’s first appearance as a partner country in the influential international bloc.

President Tinubu is attending the summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Nigeria’s new partner country status is a step above guest status, signifying closer engagement with the BRICS group, though it does not yet represent full membership.

BRICS is an economic and political alliance made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In recent years, other countries like Egypt and Ethiopia have joined the group, giving Africa more representation.

Nigeria’s inclusion as a partner reflects growing interest in BRICS from African nations seeking alternatives in global trade, investment, and diplomacy.

President Tinubu is expected to hold talks with other world leaders and discuss economic cooperation, investment opportunities, and Nigeria’s role in a shifting global order.
