Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has given automatic employment to Mrs Akaniro Gethrude Chinyere, a woman who has been helping her blind husband teach students at Ozuitem Secondary School in Bende Local Government Area.

Mrs Chinyere had been assisting her husband, Mr Akaniro, a visually impaired teacher, in the classroom without receiving any salary. Their story recently went viral on social media, drawing public attention to their dedication and sacrifice.

In response, Governor Otti directed his Special Adviser on Basic and Secondary Education, Kenechukwu Nwosu, to visit the school to assess the situation and verify the story.

Following the visit, Mrs Chinyere was formally offered employment, and her appointment letter was presented to her by the special adviser.

Speaking during the presentation, Nwosu said that the state government had recently employed 5,300 new teachers to improve the quality of education and address the teacher-student ratio in public schools across Abia.
