The management of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, has clarified that a recent gun attack that led to the death of a motorcyclist, Mr. Osinachi Asonye, did not occur within the university campus.

In a statement released by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chijioke Nwogu, ABSU said that the shooting happened outside the school premises, in nearby communities.

The statement described reports claiming the attack happened inside the campus as false and misleading, adding that such stories were aimed at tarnishing the image of the institution.

“The public should note that none of these reported incidents happened inside the University,” the statement said. “They occurred in surrounding communities, reflecting the wider insecurity challenges in the country.”

The university condemned the killing and expressed sadness over the rising insecurity but insisted that the campus remains safe and peaceful for students and staff.
