Police operatives in Ogun State have arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, Ismail Afolabi, during a secret cult meeting in the Saje area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.
The arrest was made on Friday, June 27, by officers of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit after receiving credible information about the gathering.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the suspect was caught while trying to escape the scene. He was found with a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition.
Odutola said the cult group was believed to be planning criminal activities when the police stormed the location around 5:30 p.m.
She added that preliminary investigations have begun and that the police are making efforts to arrest other members of the gang.
The Ogun State Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to fighting cultism and ensuring safety across the state.
